Work Team B-10: Networks and data visualization

Communications

Initial questions

We are producers and consumers (prosumers) of information, but are we capable of distributing, receiving, and processing this information in an appropriate way?

Do we analyze or just read this information?

Would data visualization improve how information is processed?

Can a conceptualized visualization, interconnected with the scientific production, improve the acquisition of knowledge?

Are current standards adequate to properly represent and visualize knowledge?

The cloud computing for us means a loss security, privacy, creativity ... or simply gain more freedom?

Work Group description

The key to networking is the interconnection of nodes and knowledge. The ubiquitous computing model for data visualization using web-based tools, or the cloud computing, if we speak from the viewpoint of the service provider, are providing us a lot of access to resources and data, regardless of where we are and the device used.

However, the information overload results in much of that information getting unnoticed to us.

For this reason, there are several ongoing projects that aim to develop a visualization tool for conceptual content that allows to bring together shared knowledge.

Undoubtedly, a Conference like this is the perfect opportunity to get to know about these projects; to put together different perspectives and options through one or more visualization tools. By doing so, it will be possible to analyze whether the interconnection increases, as well as their quality, use and effectiveness.

There are tools like these but their use in the educational context has just begun. For this Work Group, one of the main objectives in this Conference is to determine which features (accesibility, usability, reusability...) these tools should have.

We encourage to all institutions, companies, organizations or individuals to participate in this Conference and this Work Group.
